College Basketball

I'm sitting here listening to and watching some great college basketball. On the tube, I have Northern Iowa (UNI) and Drake. Currently, UNI is making Drake look like a pushover. We're talking 35-16. With a strong perimeter game and excellent ball movement and control, UNI is dominating. I'm very impressed with this action. In the meantime, I'm also listening to Northeastern and Hofstra. This is more of a fundamental game, low-scoring, more defensive. It is tied at 13 currently. It could make for a good game, but we'll see more as the teams start to light it up, and maybe change strategies to get the ball in the bucket.
I'm really looking forward to watching Butler-Illinois-Chicago(UIC). This could be a good matchup, as the Bulldogs have the best defensive structure to counter the scoring presence of Josh Mayo, the UIC shooting star.
I would say that I'm overly interested in Valparaiso-Loyola, but based on the below-average season that Valpo is having, I will not be too surprised if the game is a blowout early, as Jim Whitesell always has some set that he can use to counter every matchup he and his team encounters.

I look forward to some great basketball today. Yay Conference Season!!

Needing Work

I'm in need of work. I've been sitting home the last two nights waiting for my phone to ring so I could sub somewhere. I even woke up at 5AM, and showered before the phone would start ringing, and I still had no calls. I can tell I have been spoiled over the last year with a lot of work at one time. Maybe this is a point when I could use a break, but my checking account sure can't use it.

Besides that, I'm just sitting around getting nothing great accomplished. I've spent a load of time on Facebook and listening to podcasts, but I haven't really done anything else that was that exciting. I should use the time to be reading a book, but I just can't get myself too caught up in this book I've been trying to read. It is called Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon, and I'm having a hell of a time getting a grasp on it. I'm not one for fantasy tales like this one.

Oh well, for those who care, 32 days until pitchers and catchers report, plus Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice are the newest Hall of Famers. Henderson in his first ballot, though as an unretired inductee, and Rice in his last writer's ballot. This could be the first induction speech in which the entire speech is in the third person. "Rickey Henderson is in the Hall of Fame today because Rickey Henderson is fast and knows the game of baseball." (Something to that effect....)

Welcome 2009!!

Here we are three days into 2009, and I feel like it is starting out in a way that I'm not happy about. I've already had the bank statement scare, sure that might just be due to the holidays, but dang...I really overspent myself this Christmas. Other than that, I'm just bored from two complete weeks of no work. After being fired from my church, of my own doing I admit, I didn't have all of the extra hours that work brought in, but I definitely had a lot less holiday stress.
Now I'm just sitting here listening to some podcasts that I still have hanging on my laptop, and watching the Colts-Chargers. It has been a good second half, I'll point that out.

I'll make it a point to do a lot more blogging than I did in 2008. I really failed at blogging all last year. I guess that's what I get for being so busy and dealing with some issues that I let myself get caught up in. I'll keep you guys updated on how things are going in life, and any new jobs I may find, since I need something to buy up some time.
